EDUCATION
ABOUT OUR Education SERVICES
Although Educational Services is not listed in The Five Avenues of Service, the Monteagle-Sewanee Rotary Club views its education-related work as a significant extension of Youth Services. We focus on three targets: The Bratton Scholarship Endowment, the Grundy County Scholarship, and volunteering at local elementary schools.
We support local elementary schools both by volunteering and by providing monetary aid. Examples of each include the recent efforts of Rotary members to teach reading skills at Sewanee Elementary and the distribution of dictionaries to third graders at Monteagle Elementary School.
The
BRATTON SCHOLARSHIP
The Bratton Scholarship Endowment, named after our beloved Rotary member John Bratton, is awarded by merit to a citizen of Grundy County who is accepted to and plans to attend the University of the South The award goes directly toward the recipient’s tuition fees. The endowment for the Bratton Scholarship has surpassed $100,000.
The
GRUNDY COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP
The Grundy County Scholarship is designed to supplement the continuing education of a selected Grundy County High School Senior. This student may choose to go to a 4 year college, a 2 year college, or a trade school. A panel from the Grundy County School Board selects the recipient of the scholarship using merit-based criteria. The Monteagle-Sewanee Rotary Club provides recipients an award of approximately $1,000 toward financial aid.
